Welcome to LICSA, home of Hobie Fleet 143 and Nacra Fleet 35, Long Island New York's largest and most active catamaran sailing association. We are an avid group of multihull sailors who are interested in promoting the sport of sailing and in having fun. Established in 1989, LICSA welcomes sailors of all types of catamaran sailboats, from beginners to experts.  We are located in Division 12 which is a part of the North American Hobie Class Association. All of our members are Division 12 volunteers and donate their time, talent and effort to promote this great sport. We organize and run a variety of events during the year which include picnic sails, local club races, major regional races and charitable activities. If you like having fun on fast boats LICSA is for you.

You don't even have to own a boat to become a member. Take a few minutes to read about our association. If you have any questions just get in touch with us. We hope that you will consider joining LICSA and becoming a part of the fantastic world of wind, water and wave. Fair winds, fast sailing and enjoy your visit to the Long Island Catamaran Sailors' Association.

** PLEASE CHECK THE SCHEDULE/NOR TAB FOR UPCOMING EVENTS AND NOTICE OF RACE **

LICSA Day in the Sun charity event record attendance

This year we hit a record for our participation in this event. There were 10 boats, and 30 LICSA volunteers. It also helped that we had the most cooperative winds in years.  This turned out to be a great tribute to Milt Dinhofer, who after 23 years is handing the coordination of the event over to Elliot Yablon. Great job Milt !!

See the pictures here

The Day in the sun info page is here

Wind Farm Commentary Period Ends July 12
Winergy Power of Hauppauge has petitioned the US Army Corps of Engineers for permits to build either three 3.6-MW or two 5-MW combination mono-tower and jack-up tower station wind farm about 1500 feet off of Plum Island’s east side. The towers are 312 feet high, the rotor blade radius 207 feet. The towers would be spaced approximately 3100 feet apart covering approximately 200 acres.

I don’t know how you feel about wind farms, but I like ‘em and that seems like as good a place as any to put them. All the greenies seem to support wind farms, except when they’re located in their backyards (NIMBY), but you can’t have your cake and eat it too.

Regardless, you have until July 12 to make your feelings known. Address your letters to the following and you must note the Public Notice Number.

The complete proposal can be found HERE in PDF format.

NEW ISSUE OUT
The latest issue of Ocean Racing Magazine is out. As usual, some great images and it’s in the NXTbook format which — if you haven’t seen it — is very neat. Among other things, it offers peeks at two small multihulls coming down the pike: the Explorer 23 and the Multi 660. The latter is a 6.6-meter version (21 foot, six inch) of a 60-foot tri. Orient Storm Damage
Happened to pick someone up at the ferry on April 21 and the Orient Beach State Park was closed "due to storm damage."

Hecksher Storm Damage

Rich Crucet informed me that Hecksher Field 7 (our sailing beach) sustained considerable damage from the April 15th storm. It would be great if someone could go there, look at the site,  and visit with Joe Montori, the park manager. We need to find out what the plans are.  If the beach is scheduled to be closed, we should make sure that we begin the push for access to another beach in the park. - Malcolm

Need Beach Descriptions
A format has been inserted in all the destinations. Anyone with knowledge of Greenport Harbor, Southold YC, Noyak Bay and Cedar Beach are welcome to complete the listings. I put some info in the Cedar Beach and Southold YC listings but all need completion. GPJ

The loss of a great sailor
On February 25th, Ray Krogman passed away in his home in Mattituck.  Ray was a catamaran sailor, boat builder and one of the greatest sailors I have ever met.  He currently holds the record time around Robin's Island on his Stiletto 30 "Whisper".  I believe it is 38 minutes, but not sure.  I had meant to ask him, but never got the chance.  He will be missed.
Race Around Shelter Island 2007
The annual Race Around Shelter Island for 2007 will be held on Sunday, July 8th at the Southold Yacht Club! Thank you Ken Richter (again!)
